FALL SWIMMING:
With the TCA Marlins returning to the pool last week, we have a full pool again of youth swimmers. The weather has really been perfect and the water is always warm. We hope that more TCA swimmers will be joining their teammates soon. Also now is the perfect time for masters to be committing to a regular swimming schedule before the holiday season arrives. See you all at the pool.

TCAM 2010 ANNUAL REGISTRATION:
November is the magic month for all masters to complete their annual registration. We have everything you need at the desk. Everyone must complete both the TCAM form, Pacific Masters form and pay the $52 (includes PMS fee of $42 and our annual $10 aquatics fee). Pacific Masters provides our team with insurance and in order to have continuous coverage, all of our team must complete the forms and be registered. Please remember write legibly as you complete all of the forms and do not skip some of the information. I check each form and update the information in our computer. With over 400 members, I would really appreciate your help in completing the forms before the end of November. We do have a deadline of Friday, December 11. Swimmers who have not completed the forms by this date will be unable to swim. Please do not wait until the deadline. Thank you.
TCA 2010 SEASON:
Erica and the TCA coaching staff would like to encourage all of the TCA swimmers who are in both the Marlin and Senior groups to return to the pool. Swimmers who are over the age of nine who swam in the Sailfish group and new swimmers , can contact Erica about qualifying or trying out for the Marlin group. Erica would like to see the group grow over the winter months. She would also like to encourage the high school swimmers to take advantage of the winter months of training before the high school season begins in February. She is also offering a special three day a week program for high school swimmers interested in increasing their conditioning.
Parents please remember that all TCA swimmers who are returning to the water must have all of their paperwork completed before they can start practice. Parents will find all of the forms at the back desk.
FIRST MEET OF TCA 2010 SEASON:
The first meet on the TCA 2010 calendar is the Tiger Aquatic Meet in Stockton on December 12. Due to the unique meet format being used at this meet, Erica is unsure if the team will be able to enter. If not, another meet will be selected. Please check with her frequently over the next few weeks and read her parent e-mail update for the meet status. She would like to make the first meet of the season a huge success by having a large number of swimmers attend the meet. Start the season off on a positive note by taking your swimmer and maybe another swimming friend to the first meet of the season. Remember the meets are the fun part of swimming!
BRUTE SQUAD MEET:
The Davis Aquatic Masters has held an annual team brute squad swim for over 25 years. This year they have decided to open the event up as a postal swim. As a team, TCAM swimmers are going to do the brute squad swims as a meet on Sunday, November 15 at 12:00 PM. Currently we have 24 swimmers signed up to complete the three events which include the 200 fly, 400 IM and the 1650 free. All of the events for the postal swim must be completed in 90 minutes. TCAM swimmers who are interested in taking the challenge of completing the events must sign up with the coaches in advance. I have an information sheet for each of the swimmers who have already signed up. The information sheets will be available at the pool on Monday, November 9. Please read the information sheets carefully as our brute meet involves a commitment of not only swimming but also helping with the timing and counting for your teammates. We could also use interested volunteers to help with the timing and lap
counting. The meet is a unique opportunity for all of our masters to step out of the comfort zone and try a difficult swim. I am very proud of those who have already accepted the challenge.
POOL COVERS:
With cooler weather arriving, we need to cover and uncover the pool frequently during the day to conserve the pool heat. We really need all of your help with the covers. Unfortunately, the coaches cannot complete the task by themselves. We are especially having trouble with volunteers at the 9:00 workouts and 7:30 on Saturday with removing the covers. We do realize that some swimmers have commitments and must leave early, but the number of those leaving early seems to be growing when the covers need to be pulled on. If everyone would help with one or two covers, the covering of the pool takes less than five minutes. Please volunteer to help!
PARKA AND TOWEL ORDERS:
The most recent parka and towel order has been sent and the company hopes to have the order back to us before Christmas. Our next parka order will be in January. Please watch the board and the newsletter for the order deadline.
PRACTICE SUITS:
The recent order of practice suits from Illusion included sizes from 26 to 42 for women. In this order, most of the suits were made from polyester or a polyester blend. Our past Illusion suits have been made of a lycra blend. Most people have found that the sizing of the suits has varied depending on the material. Unfortunately, the polyester suits do not stretch as much as the lycra suits, but they are supposed to last twice as long. I am not totally happy with the polyester suits and the fit. I still have many suits available, but I am planning to send some of them back and replace them with the lycra suits. Please let me know if you prefer one material over the other as soon as possible. You can leave a note for me at the desk or talk with me on the deck.
SNORKELS, SNORKEL VALVES, FINS:
We now have snorkels, snorkel valve replacements and fins in all sizes available at the back desk. All of these swim items would make great Christmas gifts for your favorite swimmer. We use the snorkel and fins multiple days during the week. The fins are designed to help mimic the actual kick. Since they are lightweight, I recommend them for all masters swimmers and especially for those with any problems with the back, hips, knees or ankles. The snorkel is great for body position and watching your stroke underwater.
TAHOE SWIM MEET:
One of the highlight meets of the TCA swim season is the annual Tahoe meet. The dates have been set for July 23-25. We would like to have our TCA families plan ahead for this fun meet on the lake.
ANNUAL TCA INVITATIONAL MEET:
Our annual TCA Invitational meet is a week later this year. The coaches would like all of our TCA swimmers to participate in our home meet which will be held on August 6-8.
TCAM 2010 MEET SCHEDULE:
Masters plan ahead to attend our meets during the 2010 season.
February 6, San Francisco
April 16-18, Pleasanton, PMS Championships
June 13, Pasadena, State Senior Games (swimmers over age 50)
July 9-11, Santa Cruz, PMS Championships
August 21, Modesto
October 8-10, Walnut Creek, PMS Championships
STATE SENIOR GAMES MEET:
The date for the State Senior Games meet is June 13. I would like to see all of our swimmers over the age of 50 participate in this fun meet at the Pasadena Aquatic Center (next to the Rose Bowl stadium). The meet has all levels of swimmers. The meet is the qualifying meet for the national senior games meet to be held in Texas in 2011. Please put this meet on your calendar.
RECYCLING:
Linda Thibault (6:30 AM) has continued to collect the recyclable items from the cans several times each week. She would like everyone to increase their efforts. Each year she donates the money to several local charities at Christmas. Last year, with our help, she donated $1000. She would like to reach $1000 again this year. Remember she cannot take glass, plastic milk cartons or cans, she is only accepting plastic bottles (soda, water, etc) and aluminum cans.
TCAM CALENDAR:
With the help of Tracy Barbutes (2:00 PM), we are hoping to produce a TCAM 2010 calendar. Tracy is putting together all of the TCAM pictures for this great gift that everyone will want. We will have more details soon.
SWIMMING CLINIC:
Patti Hohne (6:30 AM) has been looking into hosting a swimming clinic at our pool. The clinic will feature Olympic swimmer, Josh Davis. Josh travels all over the country giving inspirational and stroke instruction clinics to youth and masters swimmers. Our clinic is tentatively scheduled for June 19. More details soon. Some of you might remember the great clinic we had with Byron Davis (Olympic swimmer) several years ago.
PINECREST OPEN WATER SWIM:
We are in the planning stages of having a team one mile Pinecrest swim in August. Erina Kern (10:00 AM) is organizing the swim. The swim would be just for our team and would not be a sanctioned Pacific Masters event. We would also have a potluck brunch after the swim. The swim is tentatively set for August 29. More details soon.
